Sigmund Popper came to the United States in 1904, and was married in Manhattan later that same year (6 August 1904) to Katharine J. Brittle. He adopted her young daughter, Frieda (b. England, 1897). They moved to Chicago and are seen in the 1910 and
1920 censuses:

On 6 February 1909, Siegmund Popper returned to the U.S. on the ship "Campania" after a visit to Vienna. The ship manifest lists his nearest relative in Europe as his "father, Moritz Popper, Vienna".
When Sigmund Popper died in Chicago on 22 March 1923, his death record gives his birthplace as Austria, his birthdate as 15 April 1862, his parents as "Morris Popper" and "Risi Popper", his wife as Kathryn J. Popper, and his cause of death as
broncho-pneumonia. The death record also references his brother, Alexander Popper.

Prior to her marriage to Sigmund Popper, Katharine Brittle was the mother of a daughter, Frieda ("Fritzi") Brittle, b. in England, 1897. After Katharine's marriage to Sigmund (1904), Frieda was adopted by her stepfather and used the surname POPPER.
