From another Wells Genealogy Researcher, 10/05/2004:
Unfortunately, with the two females in the tree your y-chromosome dna connection to Wells was broken. You would not even match for Van Vleck.
The only chance you have to solve this is to hunt down a descendent of one of Flossie Wells' brothers (assuming she had any) or William Thomas Wells' brothers.
I am assuming this is the family that was in district 1 Adair County, Kentucky in 1860.
The census for 1860 shows:
Margarett Holt 64 b: NC
Hiram Wells 35 b: Lee Co., Virgina (this may hint at a connection to the Zachariah Wells family of Lee county)
Elizabeth Wells 34 b: Lee Co., VA
Charles J. Wells 12 b: Lee Co., VA
Mary Jane Wells 11 b: Harlan Co., KY
Margarett Wells 8 b: Harlan Co., KY
William T. Wells 5 b: Harlan Co., KY (the "T" could be an "F")
Martha A. Wells 3 b: Adair Co., KY
Just to show how the census records are not always consistent, here is the family in the 1850 census in Harlan Co., KY
Hiram Wells 25 b: VA
Elizabeth Wells 24 b: VA
Charles J. Wells 3 b: VA
Mary J. Wells 5/12 b: KY (that means she was born in on or before January 1, 1850. She should have been 10 in 1860
Three doors away is the following family I am very confident are from the Zachariah Wells line.
Thomas Wells 50 b: VA
Mahala Wells 44 b: NC
Elizabeth Wells 11 b: VA
Martha Wells 08 b: VA
Peggy Wells 05 b: VA
Jemima Wells 02 b: VA
Also in Harlan County but a bit apart from this family is:
John Sturgill 71 b: VA
Jemima Sturgill 68 b: NC
Noah Wells 15 b: VA
Levi Wells 31 b: VA
Jemima (Sturgill) Wells was a daughter of Zachariah Wells and Abigail Osborn and I am thinking probably a great-aunt of your Hiram. Thomas Wells was probably a nephew of Jemima and it is possible the father of Hiram, but see below.
This probably means your Hiram was a great-grandson of Zachariah.
Through DNA testing we have demonstrated that this family and several previously not known to be related are all somehow connected to Thomas Wells (b: Cir 1656) and Frances _____ of Maryland. I am thinking Hiram may have been a son of William T. Wells
b: cir 1797 in Lee Co., VA m: Rebecca Shephard. William T. Wells was a son another Thomas Wells b: cir 1770 Lee Co., VA who married Rebecca Blevins. But this leaves a question about who Margaret Holt was. Could she have been an aunt of Hiram or
possibly the mother or aunt of Elizabeth?
For this family, you are on the wrong list. You should subscribe to the ZachariahWells List on RootsWeb and post a query
I also recommend you contact Rick Wells email@example.com who is a descendent of William T. Wells and Rebecca Shepherd. He may be able to identify Hiram. I may have this in my files, but don't have time right now to to find it.
Please let me know how this turns out. I always like to know how the pieces fall into place.

I am wondering if a DNA sample would help me get associated to the proper Wells family
since there are twp female links in my Wells line... it goes like this:
Heirum Wells b. abt 1825
William Thomas Wells, b. 08 Mar 1855
Flossie Frances Wells, b. 24 Oct 1889
Harold Guy Van Vleck, b. 10 May 1919
Evelyn Louise Van Vleck, b. 17 Jul 1939
By having 2 female links in there, will a DNA test prove anything in helping me get
associated with any one Well family? We are at a brick wall with Heirum Wells.
